The Black Keys - El Camino (2011)
I've been listening to this album for a coupla days now and it really has got me.
In these days of music hoarding, you don't really have great opportunities to immerse yourself into an album the way you should. I know that I have a terrible admission to being a Music Hoarder and it is an album like this that brings me back to Earth. And for those who do not know...
Music Hoarder - an individual who is such a crack addict for music that by using today's high tech methods and yesteryear's low tech ones, rushes about in the random as both hunter and gatherer seizing and collecting any album it can get its paws on. Thus with trophy, submits it to the Vault for later inspection. The Music Hoarder will often 'scan' the album for a sound that punches it in the mouth before sending it to the Vault. If such a sound is discovered, the album receives some playtime and if lucky ends up on the Hoarder's part-time Blog.
NOTE: The Music Hoarder will mention at any chance to his friends, workmates and the occasional passer-by... "Hey, have you heard **** by ****? It's their **** album. It kicks ass, I'll burn it for you."
I am a Music Hoarder.
I can't help it. I am searching for that Joe Sound and I don't have the time anymore to deal with the endless piles of stink that roll off of the commercial driven radio. I can sometimes listen to The Eagles for the bazillionth time, other times I can't take it.
New radio rock? Mostly I can't take that stuff. Most of the music I love all comes from a time that I was either deep in the line of sperm, or a mere hatchling toying with Jocko the monkey.
New music is coughed up to us not only on the idea of a potential HIT, but if it can be used on a commercial, and if it sounds like the next so and so.
How's that for a Filter operated by The Man?
That's a great band name by the way... Filter By The Man
Anyway-
The Industry is an ever changing, money-eating displacer beast. No way to navigate it.
So we only have a few options:
1. Embrace the Sheep - eat anything they send at you as you stand amongst the others, shoulder to shoulder. Buy it. Eat it. Tell your friends.
2. Be the Wolf - hunt by the light of your moon. Ignore the herd. Find the Real Thing that everyone seems to be missing and covet it as your own. Smile big with those sharp fangs. Tell your pack.
3. Hate Music - you just suck.
It's not my fault.
Nor yours.
It's not our fault that we have to dig to find what we like.
It's fun to dig, right? Dig?
Oh, yeah....
"Have you heard El Camino by The Black Keys? It's their seventh album. It kicks ass, I'll burn it for you."
Wolves and Sheep Unite!
Thanks Uncle Tom
